Farewell Sermon Of Prophet Muhammad

In the same day, 1420 ago, Prophet Muhammad leaded hundreds of thousands of Muslims in the performance of Hajj (Muslim Pilgrimage) in Mecca. It was a very touching scene. The Prophet was witnessing his followers, the fruit of his continuous call along 23 years for the path of truth in front of his eyes. The last days of the Prophet were approaching. He (PBUH) has fulfilled the task that was put upon him. It was the time of the last will and testament. Prophet Muhammad climbed the Mount of Mercy in Arafat outside of Mecca face to face with the silent hundreds of thousands crowd, and said;

"O People, lend me an attentive ear, for I know not whether after this year, I shall ever be amongst you again. Therefore listen to what I am saying to you very carefully and take these words to those who could not be present here today.

O People, just as you regard this month, this day, this city as Sacred, so regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your Lord, and that He will indeed reckon your deeds. Allah has forbidden you to take usury (interest), therefore all interest obligation shall henceforth be waived. Your capital, however, is yours to keep. You will neither inflict nor suffer any inequity. Allah has Judged that there shall be no interest and that all the interest due to Abbas ibn 'Abd'al Muttalib (Prophet's uncle) shall henceforth be waived...

Beware of Satan, for the safety of your religion. He has lost all hope that he will ever be able to lead you astray in big things, so beware of following him in small things.

O People, it is true that you have certain rights with regard to your women, but they also have rights over you. Remember that you have taken them as your wives only under Allah's trust and with His permission. If they abide by your right then to them belongs the right to be fed and clothed in kindness. Do treat your women well and be kind to them for they are your partners and committed helpers. And it is your right that they do not make friends with any one of whom you do not approve, as well as never to be unchaste.

O People, listen to me in earnest, worship Allah, say your five daily prayers (Salah), fast during the month of Ramadan, and give your wealth in Zakat. Perform Hajj if you can afford to.

All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action. Learn that every Muslim is a brother to every Muslim and that the Muslims constitute one brotherhood. Nothing shall be legitimate to a Muslim which belongs to a fellow Muslim unless it was given freely and willingly. Do not, therefore, do injustice to yourselves.

Remember, one day you will appear before Allah and answer your deeds. So beware, do not stray from the path of righteousness after I am gone.

O People, no prophet or apostle will come after me and no new faith will be born. Reason well, therefore, O People, and understand words which I convey to you. I leave behind me two things, the QURAN and my example, the SUNNAH and if you follow these you will never go astray.

All those who listen to me shall pass on my words to others and those to others again; and may the last ones understand my words better than those who listen to me directly. Be my witness, O Allah, that I have conveyed your message to your people".

If we just followed these great principles of Humanity, Justice, Equity, and Mercy, how would the world be?

Good post Mahomed,

Once again you make the point that Islam is a religion based on love and tolerance.

We had an embarrassing occurrence in Ireland a few weeks ago. The singer Yusuf Islam was playing a concert in the O2, Ireland's largest indoor music venue. A large section of the crowd (maybe 10%) did not like the format of the show, which was Islam's first in many years. They were expecting a Cat Stevens concert and they booed so loud the performance could not go on and many walked out.

It damaged the enjoyment the concert for the rest of the audience as well as Islam and the other performers.

Sometimes I am embarrassed to the Irish, we can be so closed minded about other cultures.

Thank you, Rory.

The Farewell Sermon has a special place in my heart. I like it so much. From one side, it's the sermon in the end of the prophet's life, it was like the last will before saying goodbye to all Muslims until the Judgement Day. On the other side, it has the main principles that the Prophet always invited along his life. Also, it's full of emotions.

I hope you liked the video too. It's a scene from "The Message" movie that I told you about before.

Ah, Yusuf Islam. I only heard about him after his convert to Islam. He has a good voice, and his songs are full of valuable meanings. I once heard a song for him and liked it so much, but I couldn't find it again. He's one of many singers who converted to Islam, I heard recently about a rap singer called Loon, who converted to Islam too.

I like the "Outlandish" hip-hop band. They have good songs with cool performance and good words. Something I like in this band is the members themselves, they are two Muslims and one Catholic. It's an example of civilized harmony. I'm sure you'll like their songs. I would recommend "Walou" and "I only ask of God".

About the audience who booed, I personally think that if the organizers of the concert presented him as Cat Steven, so I think they have some right to object. But if he was presented as Yusuf Islam, then they should have expected some different format of the singing.

Regards,

Mohamed

Hi Mahomed,

I watched the scene from 'The Message' it was good.

I am listen to 'Outlandish' now on YouTube, it's OK, I like the fact that they make their own music, I really am not interested in Hip-Hop artists who just talk over other peoples music. Not quite my style of music though, the only Hip-Hop I've been listening to recently is a Welsh outfit called 'Goldie Lookin Chain', they are very humorous and a bit more upbeat than 'Outlandish'.

I notice the name 'Outlandish & Sami Yusuf', what does Yusuf translate as do you know? Is it Joseph?

Yusuf islam was billed as himself, but it was the first major concert he had done anywhere in the world in many, many years, some people seemed to expect it would be just like a Cat Stevens in the old days. It was inconsiderate of them to ruin the concert for the majority who had paid good money to see the show.

Yes, "Yusuf" is the Arabic word for "Joseph". It's a common name in Muslim countries. One of my relatives is called "Yusuf".

We have a chapter in Qur'an named "Yusuf" narrating the story of this great Prophet.

Otherwise, all unrelated comments to the subject of the post will be deleted.

That's the major difference between Mohamed and reb's rules governing proper public conduct.

Your gentlemanly comments, (and your link) are always a pleasure to host at the Snake Hunters domain.

Snake Hunters,

I just read your last two comments on your own blog. They were ended by; A concise answer (under a thousand words from Mohamed) will not be deleted here.

You're partially right, they won't be "deleted", they will instead be "moderated". My last comments on your last hateful and ignorant post was no doubt very relevant to the post, I was talking by the language of numbers correcting false numbers that were stated in your post, however you moderated them and refused to publish them. This action must make me suspicious about your real intentions.

In addition, I don't restrict comments on my blog. Deleting your comments is out of banning the hateful words that don't aim at talking to the mind and achieving the civilized talk. Prove that you seek a civilized talk, and I'll welcome you!

Want to know how I see a civilized talk?
Well, if you came saying; Qur'an "IS" a book preaching killing. You Muslims are terrorists. Goodbye. I'll delete your comment.
But if you came to say; "I THINK" Qur'an is a book preaching violence. And HERE YOU'RE MY EVIDENCES. NOW, I'M READY TO LISTEN TO WHAT YOU WILL SAY, MOHAMED. I'll welcome you then, and start a speech of mind with you.

Understood?

Also, I don't allow here any "dirty language" against anyone. When some of my guests were reviling anyone, even you, I was deleting them instantly.

Another thing, you said that you welcome my links. Well, I linked to you many times websites that allow you to read the full Qur'an, did you "welcomed" this link and read the Qur'an by yourself?

Finally, you said in December 2, 2009 8:53 PM; "Good Post, Mohamed! reb". You said that after 3 previous irrelevant comments!! I have to ask you then, Do You Read My Posts First, Or Do You Comment First Before Reading The Subject Of The Post?!!

SNAKE HUNTERS said...

Mohamed - Allow me to correct you.

On November 17th, 2009 you sent two printed pages of Comment! I withheld publication because of its lenght, NOT the content. If I had published it at that time, it would have exceeded the entire volumn of all the others!

I don't like to "moderate or change" anyone's words. I have consistantly asked that guests (like Loop Garoo Kid & Aunty Em) to be CONCISE. If they can't respond in 500 words, it probably will not be published.

I've "insulted" them...so be it.

There have been exceptions to this general rule if I consider the article of great importance to others.

In deference to you, I've doubled the normal access to 1,000 words.

So, say anything you like; I will trust you to be a gentleman. This latitude is not to be viewed as an
open invitation to your friends at PorquesPas. Crudeness & vulgarity
is always banned, and after dozens of attempts, finally they've stopped. (I still have them.)

When I offered a view of the ancient gods of India & the Egyptian Sun God Ra, you took offense and deleted. That's your privilege (so I republished it on Snake Hunters for its historical value.)

When it's on my blog effort...then my rules will apply. Certainly, no offense was intended. reb

I'm so sorry, I've exceeded the limit with 97 words. Ops, they were 1097 words that you refused to publish!

You claimed that you withheld the publication of my comments because of its length, not the content. Well, if we just looked at what you said on your blog about my comment, I'll realize that you are not telling the truth.
You said in 11/18/2009 09:56:00 AM the following; "Mohamed has surfaced ... with Over Two Pages of Non-Related Comment, and Scattered Thought. Only one short paragraph seemed worthy of publication: .."

You didn't mention here anything about the length, all what you were talking about is that they are Non-Related Comment, and Scattered Thought. You are talking ABOUT THE CONTENT. It's the content that you were afraid from.

Anyway, just to stop wasting the time about unimportant thing. Just as you said, it's your blog & your rules. You want to just allow on your blog those who revile Islam, those who say another thing aren't allowed. That's your rules, Your boundaries, Your restrictions. That's you, you can't change a restricted-mind. You are to be excused.

You Are Unique! A celebrity in the American blog-o-sphere landscape.

If another "moderate" like you would appear on Snake Hunters, I would be thrilled; I'd pay close attention, carefully see if there is evidence of any cleverly worded deception, or taqiyaa. Do you understand me?

Snake Hunters blog was created to project the greatness of the USA...not to advance the ambitions of C.A.I.R.'s Saudi King Abdullah, his Virginia Madrassa or Saudi Mosques in Dearborne, Michigan...or Iran's Grand Ali Khomeinei. Then say it, without any hesitation. You will not offend me.

That's why I make an honest effort to bring you back, let people see for themselves how YOU think; what you sincerely believe is TRUTH.

Never once, have you ever shown any inclination for a necessary basic change in the Shari'a, nor do you acknowledge the negative parts permitting terror, as we have seen in Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 200, or Qur'an 8:60, or Qur'an 5:33 & Qur'an 9.5 Do you consider mentioning these verses as insulting reviles? > Yes, you do.

reb,

You said in December 4, 2009 7:03 AM "Never once, have you ever shown any inclination for a necessary basic change in the Shari'a, nor do you acknowledge the negative parts permitting terror, as we have seen in Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 200, or Qur'an 8:60, or Qur'an 5:33 & Qur'an 9.5 Do you consider mentioning these verses as insulting reviles? > Yes, you do."

At first, answering your question, Do you consider mentioning these verses as insulting reviles?

Qur'an is a great and wonderful holy book. Every letter, every verse, every chapter is great. No other book would be compared to it. So, no, I don't consider mentioning any verse as insulting reviles. I'm proud of every verse of Qur'an. It's not my problem that you cut pieces of Qur'an and make wrong conclusions, it's your own problem that you refuse to read Qur'an in full, you just keep quoting parts of the verses and refuse to read them in full.
"It's not the problem of a book that an ignorant refuse to read it. It's the own problem of the ignorant himself"
Qur'an is not a book to be changed, but is to be properly understood. To understand it, read it!

Mohamed said...

Now, about your quotes..

>
Regarding the first quote Bukhari, Vol 4, Book 200; I don't know what you exactly mean. There are only 93 books in Sahih Bukhari, so I guess the place or the person who told you about this quote was fooling you. Beware of your sources!

>
Regarding the second quote Qur'an 8:60. It's the verse that is read as;
"Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies, and others besides, whom ye may not know, but whom Allah doth know. Whatever ye shall spend in the cause of Allah, shall be repaid unto you, and ye shall not be treated unjustly."

This verse is representing what is known today in policy among states as "Balance Of Terror". It's briefed in the following statement;
"You have powerful weapons, I have powerful weapons, both of us won't attack each other".
All states around the world are practicing the principle represented in this verse. If we took America and Russia (USSR later), they had since the 40's until the 90's what was called: "Cold War" among each other. Both of the two countries were increasing their weapons, gaining nuclear bombs and increasing the budget for arms. The main reason of this cold war, was to avoid a real war. Both of them were aiming at stopping the other side from even thinking at attacking the other side. If one of them was stupid enough to attack the other with Nukes, he knows very well that the next hour he will be attacked by Nukes. That's the core of "The Balance Of Terror". Nobody will attack the other side.
But if we took another example, America and Japan for instance. We can realize that America knew very well in the 2nd WW that Japan has no Nukes, that's why they attacked them with Nukes with no fear of a nuclear respond from Japan. There was no terror in the hearts of American politicians when they took that decision of being attacked back!

That's what the verse is exactly talking about. The verse is talking about increasing the strength of the state, not to attack other states, but just to stop them from even thinking in attacking us. No stupid state, would attack a strong state. God is telling Muslims to be equipped by arms, weapons and advanced technology so as to terrify anyone from even thinking about attacking, everyone will be so aware that he will be attacked back, he will be terrified from taking the decision of the attack. And in case of the attack, Muslims will be ready to defend themselves.

Any state apply that principle even if it's the most peaceful state in the world. Every state always enrich and improve its arsenal, even if it's not planning to use it. Weapons aren't always made for the actual use, but also to terrify others from attacking me.

reb, if you aren't convinced about this principle represented in verse 60 of 8th chapter, would you tell me about any respected state that don't apply it in its foreign policy?

Mohamed said...

>
Regarding the third quote Qur'an 5:33. It's the verse that is read like;
"The punishment of those who wage war against Allah and His Messenger, and strive with might and main for mischief through the land is: execution, or crucifixion, or the cutting off of hands and feet from opposite sides, or exile from the land: that is their disgrace in this world, and a heavy punishment is theirs in the Hereafter;

However I explained this verse for you before, I'll explain it again..

A person who blow up a bus station or a market. A person who rape little girls. A person who terrorize the safe people. A person who kill innocents. Armed burglar. What is a just punishment for them? 10 years jail, then released to continue killing and terrorizing innocents?
According to Islamic view, the person who commit these horrible crimes is someone who reached a very high limit of disrespecting human life and freedom of others that he himself doesn't deserve enjoying his life. That's why he must be severely punished, whether by execution or cutting his body parts, or to be exiled. These penalties are called; "Had al-Haraba". They are three degrees of punishment according to degree of the crime he commits. They are just punishments for anyone who commit the horrible crimes of killing innocents, random killing, threating the safety of people, etc.

Such punishments achieve two important targets; the first is personal and public deterrence, this criminal won't commit a crime like that anymore, if left alive, and others who may think about killing innocents won't ever think about committing such crimes so as to avoid facing the same penalty.
The second target of these severe penalties is achieving social security and public satisfaction. When the people know that the one who threatens their lives and kill their children is severely punished, this will make them feel security. On the other side, the family of the victim will feel some satisfaction when they know that the one who raped their child or killed their innocent son was punished without any mercy. That's the point of these penalties.

It was recorded that the prophet applied the "Had al-Haraba" when he ordered a Muslim man to be executed, because he killed a non-Muslim man whom Muslims had a covenant with his people.

I'm curious to listen to your perspective about this verse.

Mohamed said...

>
Regards the 4th quote Qur'an 9.5. It's the verse that is read as;
"1. A (declaration) of immunity from Allah and His Messenger, to those of the Pagans with whom ye have contracted mutual alliances:-
2. Go ye, then, for four months, backwards and forwards, (as ye will), throughout the land, but know ye that ye cannot frustrate Allah (by your falsehood) but that Allah will cover with shame those who reject Him.
3. And an announcement from Allah and His Messenger, to the people (assembled) on the day of the Great Pilgrimage,- that Allah and His Messenger dissolve (treaty) obligations with the Pagans. If then, ye repent, it were best for you; but if ye turn away, know ye that ye cannot frustrate Allah. And proclaim a grievous penalty to those who reject Faith.
4. (But the treaties are) not dissolved with those Pagans with whom ye have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term: for Allah loveth the righteous.
5. But when the forbidden months are past, then fight and slay the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
6. If one amongst the Pagans ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah. and then escort him to where he can be secure. That is because they are men without knowledge."

All what I can tell you -until I read your perspective- is that this verse was limited for a specific time, when the Pagans were fighting against Muslims, breaking the treaties held with Muslims and doing all their best to strict their freedom of practicing their religion. It's an awful crime that is presently denounced by all civilized countries.

What proves that this verse is limited by three factors; Time, Purpose and Those who are meant in it are the following;

a) God said in the verse "when the forbidden months are past", it's a period of four lunar months when God forbid fighting the Pagans within them. It's a chance from God to the Pagans to stop their oppression against Muslims.

b) The fighting in the 5th verse is limited for achieving a specific purpose, i.e. Allowing Muslims to practice their religion freely. If we read the following sentences in the same verse; "but if they repent". The point here is that Muslims are't fighting the Pagans just because they're non-Muslims, but it's about defending the right of Freedom Of Religion.
In addition, The next verse after this verse, 9:6 orders Muslims to grant asylum to the Pagans if he asked Muslims for it. So, it's not an absolute hatred or blind enmity, Muslims aren't ordered to kill the Pagans just because they are Pagans, but it's all about striking the oppression.

c) The verse here isn't talking about all Pagans or every Pagan, but it's talking about the Pagans who don't allow Muslims to practice their religion and who fight against Muslims. The 4th verse clarifies this fact, it excluded at first the Pagans whom Muslims have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided any one against you.

It's so clear the verse isn't to be generalized anyway. It's limited by the time, by the purpose, and by those who are meant to be fought. It's just meant to treat the oppressors, but others who don't oppress Muslims, Allah ordered told Muslims;
"Allah forbids you not, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) Faith nor drive you out of your homes, from dealing kindly and justly with them: for Allah loveth those who are just." 60:8

1. "...I have been made victorious with terror." Bukhari Vol 4
Wrong Book? O.K. But, you won't say
which book, will you? You know which book too, don't you Mohamed?

2. Why is your explanation longer than the verse? There was no mention of the "cold war" with the Russian in your verse, no "mutually assured destruction", or mention of Japan. (That quick surrender was a blessing for them, and for us!) Japan today is Prosperous, and a respected friend. Imagine That. No more Japanese War Lords! (Read their brutal history.) Sixty-five years of blessed peace...with great prosperity!

3. About Q 5:33 - the "cutting off the hands and feet from opposite sides"!! Is that Islam's Notion of Justice? If a person is found guilty of the most heinous crime, (like Major Nidal Hasan at Ft Hood)then why not just put this insane person to sleep? Must he also suffer that most cruel misfortune of disfigurement, to please the sadistic pleasure of his captors?

IS THAT PERFECTED ISLAMIC JUSTICE?

4. "Fight and slay the Pagans..." Q 9:5 - Is a Pagan the same as an "Infidel" or "Kafir"?
----
All I'm certain of is that I am (a)
old, (b) still ignorant of most your cruel culture, and (c) I will spend my remaining energies to enlighten more Americans to the evil purposes behind the
infiltration of the USA by a Saudi King, or do whatever I can to expose a Grand Iranian Ayatollah from getting his nuclear capacity.
Do you know what a Dominate Ali Khomeinie would think of Saudi Arab, or Egyptian "moderates"?

Mohamed never mentions his private thoughts, but he thinks about Iran too, I would guess. The world is waiting, watching the rioting in Tehran. Hoping for regime change.

His Madhi Prophet doesn't exist; you know that Mohamed, and I know it. But, let's not talk about it. After he wipes those nasty Jews "off the map", then start worrying about Egypt. Not yet!

Why would I spend five minutes to deceive a bright, and blindly loyal
person, that believes in an old book, filled with grim stories of
death & destruction, and the abject
subjugation & humiliation of women...half of the human race?

You Offer Me a Final Chance (!) To Prove...Nothing. My intentions have never been in hiding. Show me

reb,

I told you not to play a fool on me, but you insist to do that. When I talked about Japan, USSR and USA I knew very well that they weren't mentioned in the verse, but I referred to them as examples to clarify the policy of "Balance Of Terror". Haven't you hear about it before?

>
Five minutes?

Is that all what you can give to try to understand a long history of more than 1400 years and another culture?

That's very shocking to know that.

That's why I insist to define you as an ignorant. The ignorant is not only someone who doesn't know, but he's also someone who don't want to know.

reb,
You don't want to know. Every time I refer you to read Qur'an, you ignore my invitation, or offer illogical excuses.

You just conclude things about Qur'an from reading only parts, do you think that it's fair?

Think about the answer.

reb,
I'll talk the way you understand..

We talked before about what Americans did in the WWII, i.e. dropping two nuclear bombs over two Japanese cities. You knew that I think it's a horrible terroristic crime, and I knew that you think it was a good thing that brought "blessing" for everyone because it prevented more deaths, you believed in that when you took an overall view. OK?

My point is;
Even if something appears too bad, it maybe too good when seen in the overall image.

You think that killing hundreds of thousands of civilian Japanese was a good thing because you looked at it with an overall view, right?

Now, how can you judge parts of the Qur'an, that appear "bad", when you can't take the overall view towards all Qur'an, when you refuse to read Qur'an?

Can you understand me?

I'm telling you to take an overall view, the same as you did with the dropping of Nukes over Japan, you didn't say; "Oh, Americans killed hundreds of thousands, it's too bad.", but you said instead; "Yes, Americans "had" to do that to prevent more killings." That's your view!
Can you then do the same with Qur'an. Can you take the next step and read the whole Qur'an? Can you try to understand Qur'an in full?

Can you?

I'll wait for your answer..

Think..

then tell me what will be your decision.

If you decided to read Qur'an, just tell me!

Sahih Bukhari"
